EMDR Therapy
Remote or in-person in Stirling

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured psychotherapy that uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds, for example), whilst the individual focuses on aspects of a traumatic memory. This process activates the brains natural information-processing system, allowing the memory to be integrated, rather than 'stuck' in its threat based form. EMDR is one of the most researched trauma therapies worldwide and is recommended in NICE guidelines, and by the World Health Organisation as a first line treatment for PTSD. Unlike traditional talking therapies, EMDR does not require detailed discussion of the event, analysis of thoughts, or extended verbal exploration.  After engaging in EMDR, people often describe feeling unstuck, lighter or able to think about the memory without feeling overwhelmed.
